SUPERMARKET group Asda is creating 350 jobs in the North West after being given the go-ahead to buy 35 Netto stores in the region.

The stores are at Atherton, Blackpool, Birkenhead, Bolton, Bootle, Carlise, Chorley, Darwen, Eccles, Garston, Green Lane (Liverpool), Hindley, Hollins Road (Oldham), Huddersfield Road (Oldham), Leigh, Levenshulme, Leyland, Morecambe, Pendlebury , Newton Heath), Penny Lane (Liverpool), Poynton), Rochdale, Salford, Saltney (Chester), Stockport, Strood (Lancashire), Worthington Way (Wigan), Wythenshawe, Workingham and Whitehaven.
To satisfy competition concerns outlined by the Office of Fair Trading had to sell 47 of the 193 Netto stores it bought last year, including nine in the North West and Wales, which are being bought by Deeside-based Iceland and Morrisons.
Asda’s chief financila officer Judith McKenna, said: “The good news for shoppers in this part of the world is that there’ll be no premium to shop in one of our smaller stores. We’ll charge the same low prices you’ll find in any of our stores.”
Morrisons will take over three former Netto stores in Newton-le-Willows, Bolton and Accrington as part of the deal.
