CBG launches medical malpractice product

INSURANCE broker CBG Group has announced the launch of a new division offering specialist cover to healthcare organisations.

The division, known as PALM, will offer medical malpractice cover, which is an area avoided by many insurers. It is a joint venture between CBG, MPS Risk Solutions and Chartis Insurance Company.

The Manchester-based firm will target all types of corporate healthcare organisations, including clinics, private hospitals, fertility centres, diagnostic and imaging services and independent primary care providers of all sizes.

Dave Mackie, Group Business Development Director at CBG Group, said: “Both the NHS and the private sector have seen the cost of clinical negligence rise sharply in recent years.

“As people become more aware of their ability to seek redress – coupled with the emergence of ‘no win, no fee’ arrangements offered by legal firms – corporate healthcare organisations are facing an increased threat of medical malpractice claims.

“There is a real need for organisations to understand their exposures, not least of which is their vicarious liability for employed healthcare professionals, and ensure they have appropriate cover in place.”
