Playdemic sold to US developer

US games developer RockYou has bought Playdemic, a Manchester-based firm that makes games for the social networking site Facebook.

California-based RockYou, which employs 170 staff, said it plans to turn Playdemic into its second studio. It will continue to develop games for Facebook.

The deal provides an exit for investor Ian Livingstone, who founded Games Workshop and Tomb Raider publisher Eidos.

Playdemic, which employs 16 staff, has around half a million monthly users of its Gourmet Ranch game.

A combined farming and baking game, it invites players to grow organic crops, raise animals and prepare and serve meals to their friends. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
