‘Hitman’ Pete Waterman joins LEP board

WARRINGTON-based pop music mogul Pete Waterman has been made a member of the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership board.
Waterman, who was behind the launch of the pop careers of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Rick Astley in the 1980s, is among 14 members of the LEP board, who will decide on the economic strategy for the new organisation, which will begin to operate in April.
Based in Daresbury, Pete Waterman is an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust and for Community Service Volunteers.
The 64-year-old is a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Cheshire and was awarded the OBE in 2005 for services to the music industry.

Board member and leader of Warrington Borough Council, Cllr Ian Marks said, “We were delighted with the huge number of applications received.
“I know the people appointed will make an excellent team and we are fortunate to have such a good mix of people from different sectors.
“The first task of the new board is to elect a chairman and then we must continue to promote Cheshire and Warrington as an outstanding place to do business.
“We are already a successful economy but we can do more to create jobs and prosperity and help rebuild the national economy.”
As well as the private sector members, the 14-person LEP board includes the keaders of Warrington, Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester councils and three individuals from the education and voluntary sectors.
