E-Vials sold to Wheaton Industries

A ROCHDALE firm that makes glass products and laboratory equipment has been acquired by US-based group Wheaton Industries.

E-Vials, trading as Laboratory Sales, was founded in 1980 by Grahame Elmore and now has a turnover of £7m and employs 80 staff. It supplies the biotech industry, the NHS and educational institutions.

New Jersey-based Wheaton said the deal would strengthen its position as a market leader for cell-based research equipment and give it a foothold in the European market. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

Wheaton’s chief executive Stephen Drozdow said: “This strategic investment further strengthens our position as a market leader of specialty packaging and related instruments for cell-based research, chemical compound, in vitro diagnostics, and specialty pharmaceutical markets.

“We were particularly attracted to LSL’s position and growth prospects in the UK and throughout Europe.”

The corporate team at Manchester law firm DWF advised Mr Elmore, led by Frank Shephard and Vicky Barker. Gary Houghton and James Wild of accountancy firm Baker Tilly also worked on the deal.
