Qatar Airways to double Manchester flights

QATAR Airways has announced plans to increase its presence in the north of England by adding a second daily flight from Doha to Manchester.

The airline said that the existing Manchester route had performed well, with people travelling through Doha to pick up Qatar flights to onward destinations in the Africa, Australia, South Asia and the Far East.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said: “Manchester has long proved to be one of our successful routes so it was only a matter of time before we could deploy additional capacity into this market.

“I am pleased to say that from June 1, the extra flights will be introduced offering passengers from northern England and, indeed, the Midlands the opportunity to fly to Qatar and beyond.

“The second daily service will allow Qatar Airways to grow the passenger market for both inbound and outbound travel to Manchester, as well as build up our cargo freighter capacity on the route.”

Andrew Harrison, managing director for Manchester Airport, said: “The long haul network at Manchester continues to get stronger and Qatar’s commitment to Manchester by going double daily underlines the strength of the market in northern England.

“Our leisure and business passengers want the frequency that is being provided by airlines like Qatar Airways and we know it’ll prove popular in the years ahead.
