Sharp Project secures new Sky drama

BSKYB and independent television company Tiger Aspect Productions are to produce a new Sky 1 comedy drama at East Manchester’s Sharp Project.
Tiger Aspect has hired two of the four available sound stages, totalling 16,000 sq ft, together with an additional 8,000 sq ft of production offices for the show called Mount Pleasant.
Filming of eight 60-minute episodes will start in March with the series due for broadcast in the autumn.
The show is based around a young Mancunian couple and is written by Shameless writer Sarah Hooper.
Sharp Project director Sue Woodward said: “Tiger Aspect is a premier league signing for us. It’s great they chose us for this very northern production. The city has made a considerable investment in the Sharp Project to help further build on the excitement generated by MediaCity. Together we are delivering a rich and wide range of production facilities for companies looking for opportunities outside London.”
The Sharp Project is based at the former Sharp Electronics warehouse off Oldham Road. The £16.5m refurbishment has been funded by Manchester City Council, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the European Regional Development Fund.
