DRL buys distribution business

ONLINE retailer DRL Holdings has completed the acquisition of home delivery specialist Expert Logistics.

Bolton-based DRL, which sells white goods, has bought Expert from Iceland Frozen Foods. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

DRL said it planned to invest in Manchester-based Expert to increase the choice of delivery times available to  customers and enable them to track their deliveries.

In a statement Steve Caunce, DRL’s finance director, said: “Distribution is a key element of DRL’s retail arm, and given the volume of business the company now delivers, being able to control distribution has become essential.”

He added: “Customers are quite rightly demanding more from home delivery and DRL will continue to take a market leading position in providing the highest quality of service. Enabling the customer to choose when their new appliances will be delivered and then allowing them to use technology to track their order will be an essential part of home delivery in the future.”

DRL was established in 2000 as an online white goods retailer and now employs more than 200 staff. The company’s client list includes Amazon, Boots, Debenhams, House of Fraser and Marks and Spencer.

Expert employs 150 staff and counts Argos, Beko, BSH Group, Electrolux and Tesco among its clients.
