Volex pulls plug on NW office

VOLEX, the power cord manufacturer is cutting its ties with the North West.

The company is closing its head office at Birchwood Science Park in Warrington in favour of headquarters in London.

A spokesman for the firm said: “Volex is an international business and the directors felt it was better to have a small head office in London where they will be based.

“The links with the North West are clearly not what they once were as a result of the shift in the manufacturing function to facilities overseas.

“The office in Warrington will be run down and closed.”

Volex’s largest division, which makes power products, is based in Singapore, although it does still have a site in Leigh.

Last week in a trading update for  the 13 weeks to July 5,  Volex said revenues from continuing operations were 11% down on last year at £54m, but operating profits were up 304% at £3m.
