Optare to supply green buses to airport

NORTH West bus manufacturer has won a £1.2m contract from Manchester Airport for six ‘green’ buses.

The Lancashire group will suppy the airport with six Versa hybrid vehicles, which are being part-funded by the Government’s Green Bus Fund. The first of the buses will enter service in September 2011.

Chief executive Jim Sumner, said: “We are very pleased to be bringing our hybrid technology to Manchester Airport.

“Their operation at one of the UK’s most important international gateways will showcase Optare’s environmentally-friendly hybrid buses to the millions of people passing through the airport to and from the over 200 destinations it serves worldwide.”

Optare said it would be announcing its results for 2010 on May 9.
