Tile firm mourns loss of chairman
THE chairman of long-established North West tile manufacturer Pilkington's Tiles, has died suddenly.

THE chairman of long-established North West tile manufacturer Pilkington’s Tiles, has died suddenly.

Kevin Whiteley, 68, who was part of a team of four who bought the Clifton Junction, Salford, company five years ago, died at home on Monday morning.

In a statement Pilkington Tiles said: “He made an immense contribution to the ceramics industry establishing key trading links with UK, Spanish and Italian tile manufacturers.”

Chief executive Ray Tarr described Mr Whiteley as a “larger than life character” with a wicked sense of humour. “He will be greatly missed by us all.”

Prior to Pilkington’s Tiles Mr Whiteley, who is survived by his wife Val and three children, founded Tile City, Tile Clearing House and Surface Coatings with his brother Paul.
