DLA Piper in tune with IoD awards

LAW firm DLA Piper has been confirmed as main sponsor of the Institute of Directors North West Director of the Year Awards.

The key event on the North West business calendar, which is taking place on October 7 at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester, is now in its sixth year.

Despite the recession this year’s competition received a record matching number of entrants from across the five North West branches of Cumbria, Cheshire, Lancashire, Liverpool and Manchester.

Tickets to the event, which will be hosted by BBC North West Tonight presenter Ranvir Singh, have sold out.

Darrell Matthews, regional director for the IoD in the North West, said:“We are delighted to have DLA Piper on board with us, for what is shaping up to be a very exciting and entertaining evening.

“Their kind sponsorship also reflects the rising popularity and influence of the awards for the North West business community.

“We received more than 160 nominations, matching last year’s record, and this is very encouraging. Even in 2009, companies are thriving – and willing to show that the North West remains a strong location to grow and develop a successful business.”

Previous winners of the overall Director of the Year Award include Steve Corcoran of Speedy Hire  (2008), Vernon Barker of Transpennine Express (2007) and Andrew Tinkler, the CEO of Stobart Group (2006).
