Forever 21 eyes Liverpool opening

ROYAL London Asset Management has submitted a planning application to build a flagship new retail store in a key site in Liverpool city centre.

The firm is planning to demolish a building on the corner of Whitechapel and Church Street in central Liverpool and build a new 46,000 sq ft store over five floors on the site, which will be occupied by fashion retailer Forever 21.

Royal London said that the project will create 200 jobs as well as providing extra footfall within the retail sector in the city.

US-owned retailer Forever 21 has 480 stores worldwide but currently only has one other store in the UK at Birmingham. The retailer also plans to open further stores in London and Glasgow.

The new building has been designed by architects DLG. If the planning application is approved, building work will start in September.

Larry Meyer, executive vice president for Forever 21, said: “This location in Liverpool is another strong step of our expansion within the UK and Europe. We are extremely excited to have found a great store space in a location where our customers will appreciate our brand.

“The size of this store will allow us to offer a great range of products at great value to fashion conscious and trend driven shoppers in the area.”

Drew Watkins, senior fund manager for Royal London Asset Management, said: “This is a very exciting project for Royal London Asset Management and we are delighted to have the opportunity of working with such a prestigious retailer as Forever 21, with whom our design team has collaborated closely.”

Turley Associates is planning advisor to Royal London Asset Management on the scheme and Gardiner and Theobald is the project manager.
