Manchester City Region: Reasons to be cheerful

AS the nation slumped into the recession following the banking crisis, much was made by Greater Manchester’s civic leaders of the area’s resilience, its sound economic fundamentals and its innate advantages over competitor city regions.

There may have been an element of hubris to their assessment – city leaders generally talk up their territory both at home and abroad, and it is something at which Manchester has excelled – but generally their assessment appears to have stood the test of time.

Of course, the City Region was not isolated from the devastation caused to the economy by the banking crisis, but the general consensus is that, with a few high profile exceptions, Greater Manchester weathered the storm well.

In our third feature for our City Region economic review, in association with Santander Corporate Banking and Pannone, we look at the various sectors which have performed well, from professional services to creative and digital.

We also look at some of the exciting projects, MediaCity:UK being the prime example, which will drive the City Region econony in the next few years.
