Lancaster makes Uni top 10

LANCASTER University is the highest ranked North West university, according to The Guardian newspaper’s University Guide 2012.

It was placed seventh, down from sixth last year, in the rankings of 119 institutions based on a range of factors including the ratio of students to staff, graduate career prospects, grades required for courses and the opinions of final year students.

The top five places were held by: Cambridge, Oxford, St Andrews, London School of Economics and University College London.

Lancaster was well ahead of the North West pack with Manchester coming second in 41st place, up from 51st, and Liverpool at 49th, down from 39th. Manchester Metropolitan was placed 108th, down from 104, and Salford was one below in 109th place, down from 108.
 
The survey, conducted by Intelligent Metrix, placed the University of Central Lancashire at 70th, Edge Hill in Ormskirk at 78th, Chester at 80th, Cumbria at 89, Liverpool John Moores at 111th and Bolton at 116th.
