Energetix pumped at Pyramid prospects

ENERGETIX Group has been commissioned by Co-operative Financial Services to install three of its new Pnu Power DC100 units at the Pyramid building in Stockport.
The batteries will be used to provide backup power to the site’s IT facilities.
Chester-based Energetix has also been granted permission by CFS to use this installation for marketing purposes and to display the Pnu Power installation to other potential customers.
The firm said the compressed air batteries are more efficient and require less maintenance than a typical rotary battery. It claims that a typical 2MW data centre could save more than £1.75m in electrical costs over a 20-year lifespan by using the produc as well as cutting CO2 emmissions used in powering the centres by around 90%.
To date, the Pnu Power product range has been sold to the telecommunications and grid switching markets with systems in the 2 to 20kW range. This installation at the Pyramid Building will increase the product range up to 300 kW and will be the first system deployed in the higher-powered data centre market.
Energetix chief operating officer Neil Bright said: “We are delighted that we have been able to secure such a prestigious reference site so soon after the announcement and demonstration of our Pnu Power data centre product range. We are very pleased that Co-operative Financial Services has agreed that we can use this installation as a demonstration and reference point to the wider data centre market.”
Amrik Kandola, facilities project manager at the Co-operative Group, said: “We visited the Pnu Power facility in Chester on several occasions before deciding that this is the ideal solution for our power protection needs. We look forward to gaining operational experience so we can evaluate the system for larger facilities in the future.”
