Stockport town centre site up for sale

STOCKPORT Council is to put a prime development site in the heart of Stockport town centre up for sale.

The 0.62 acre site has a frontage to Piccadilly, close to its junction with the newly transformed St Peter’s Square, and is currently used as a pay and display car park.

The council has suggested the site would be suitable for a hotel, since various studies have identified a need for a hotel within the town, but added that it was prepared to consider all proposals consistent with both planning and the Future Stockport vision.

Councillor Kevin Hogg, executive member for regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this excellent site to the market and given its advantages and the timing, anticipate great interest.”

He added: “This site is a great opportunity for a developer to take advantage of the excellent location in the town centre, close to the main shopping area and historic Market and Underbanks area, as well as superb transport links.”

The council has instructed property agent DTZ to sell the site.
