TJ Morris’s growth wins praise

TJ MORRIS, the company behind low-cost retailer Home Bargains, has been named the 3i Private Business of the Year at this year’s National Business Awards.

The Liverpool firm, which was recognised for its growth strategy, was honoured in front of 1,200 business leaders and guests including keynote speaker Alistair Darling.

TJ Morris, which was placed second on The Grocer’s 50 Largest Independent Grocers list in March, has ambitious plans to double its number of stores to 350 and employ more than 10,000 staff by 2013.

Joe Morris, operations director at TJ Morris, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this award. It’s a real testament to the ambition and dedication of the entire TJ Morris team.

“Whilst many high street retailers continue to suffer, we’ve opened 30 new stores over the past six months alone, and we’re about to launch our new £35m distribution centre in Liverpool.”
