Moss to head McGrigors’ Manchester office

LAW firm McGrigors has announced that David Moss is to become the new head of its Manchester office.

Moss, who is a construction law expert, brought a 10-strong team to McGrigors from law firm Squire Sanders Hammonds in September last year.

The announcement was made by McGrigors’ senior partner Kirk Murdoch at the launch of the firm’s new Manchester office at One The Avenue in Spinningfields last night. Moss will replace the firm’s current office head Peter Blackmore, who will be spending more time in the firm’s London office.

Blackmore oversaw the launch of Glasgow-based McGrigors’ Manchester office three years ago. The firm now has around 40 staff in the city.

The office was opened by Manchester city council chief executive Sir Howard Bernstein, who said that One The Avenue had been one of the more difficult buildings within the Spinningfields district to get off the ground, but it was now providing a useful mix of high-end retail and office space.

Sir Howard said: “Spiningfields now is the home of tens upon thousands of people. I think that if it wasn’t for Spinningfields many of them wouldn’t be here.”

He added that the city also now needed to look beyond the huge site – developed by Allied London – towards future investment opportunities.

“Without a very strong forward plan we’re not going to be able to exploit the opportunities I believe this economy will still be generating in terms of future needs for employment.

“If we don’t get the new quarers in place, we’re not going to be able to meet the demands of a growing Manchester economy.

“That’s why we’re placing importance not just on the continued development of Spinningfields – and we’re only one building away now from having said the job is done – but also looking beyond that towards the Co-op quarter, First Street (and) our Airport City Enterprise Zone proposals.”

Mr Murdoch said the firm had achieved “exceptional growth” during its first three years in the city, where it has built relationships with clients such as The Co-Operative Bank, NM Rothschild, United Utilities, Manchester Airport and others.

“From a standing start we have grown to over 40 people in Manchester. I believe that is a significant achievement which shows that our UK-wide network, and focus on key sectors such as infrastructure, energy and professional and financial services, is paying dividends.”
