Fender appointed as GM transport chair

COUNCILLOR Andrew Fender was appointed as the chairman of the new Transport for Greater Manchester Committee – the new organisation which has taken the place of the former Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority.

Cllr Fender, who is a member of Manchester City Council, was appointed chair following the 33-strong committee’s first meeting last Friday. Three vice-chairs were also appointed, with Cllr Roger Jones of Salford heading the Capital Projects and Policy sub-committee, Cllr Mark Aldred of Wigan hosting the Bus & TfGM Services sub-committee and Cllr Doreen Dickinson of Tameside hosting the Metrolink and Rail Networks sub-committee.

Cllr Fender said: “I am honoured to have been appointed as Chair of the new Transport for Greater Manchester Committee as it embarks on its first year.

“This is a very important time for transport across the region and I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure we continue building a quality, integrated transport network for the people of Greater Manchester.”
