Sectors such as tourism and education are seeing an immediate uplift, while city investment chiefs are hopeful that Foreign Direct Investment will come from China as a result of relationships built around the Expo.

Peel Group, which was the largest private sector supporter of the Expo, used the event to showcase its multi-billion pound Liverpool Waters project as well as its other key assets such as MediaCityUK.

It said earlier this month it had secured more than £20m for the first phase of its International Trade Centre which will be built in Birkenhead and will create more than 2,000 jobs.
