Media Mix: Manchester marketeers clean up; plus Uniform, BCL Legal, if agency and MPA

MANCHESTER businesses won 10 out of the 16 categories at last week’s Marketing Society Northern Awards, held at the Lancashire County Cricket Club’s new conference facility, The Point.

Advertising agency BJL won the Drink and Health Sciences, Pharmaceuticals & Consumer Health Care Awards while marketing business Journey9 took home the Consumer Durable award.

Other big winners included: Parasol (B2B category), Smokefree North West (Not for Profit), Match Day Cards (Sports & Sportswear), CTI (Technology), The University Hospital South Manchester NHS Trust (CSR), KMP Digitata (Low budget Campaign) and Tayburn (Social Media).

The Grand Prix Award was claimed by Tayburn and Chewits for the ‘Mastering the Chewieverse’ campaign.

DESIGN agency Uniform is up against Liverpool FC for a marketing award.

The club is also contesting the Best Digital Marketing Campaign category of the MBNA Northern Sports Awards 2011 in Manchester tonight.

Liverpool-based Uniform was shortlisted for its work for Carlsberg at Anfield to raise awareness of the brand’s association with Liverpool FC.

It came up with a film depicting the club’s legends which has had17,700 hits on the Carlsberg site and a further 6,000 on LFC TV site making it the third most watched Carlsberg film.

Managing director Nick Howe said: “Obviously we were delighted to be working with Carlsberg and with the results of the campaign. It’s ironic that we’re up against Liverpool FC for the big prize, but we’re confident we can win it.”

BCL Legal – the legal recruitment consultancy which has offices in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol and Reading – has launched a new department to help firms recruit non-legal managerial and support staff.

The team is headed up by Emma Anthony, who has over 13 years experience in the recruitment industry, and will be operating across the regions sourcing personnel for a variety of disciplines.

She said: “We are passionate about what we do and realised that we could add extra value by addressing the non-legal demands that our clients recruit and wouldn’t traditionally have used a legal recruiter to resource. This is why we have extended our reach and now offer a bespoke service that’s based on finding the very best people to lead, develop and grow their businesses.”

THE if agency, the Manchester based agency that specialises in direct communications, has secured a new business win with car sales website Netcars.com.

It won the job as part of a competitive pitch. The team will help Netcars.com persuade car dealers to list their stock on the site.

The work includes developing the company’s integrated sales strategy, launching a new dealer microsite and producing various sales support materials as well as a CRM programme.

The main aim of the campaign is to position Netcars.com as the new market leader for online used car sales by generating awareness among dealers.

MANCHESTER-based brand design firm Studio North has secured two new high profile briefs; one with CATE – Manchester Metropolitan University’s Centre for Air Transport and the Environment – and the other with Fylde Borough Council.

It will be developing, designing and launching new websites for both clients.

Operations director Michael di Paola said: “Both these wins are great news for the agency as they provide their own challenges for very different audiences. We all know that the public sector has been hit hard so it’s positive to see that effective digital communications are still seen as a vital component for long term success, engagement and development.’

THE MPA, the new name for the Manchester Publicity Association, is offering members 12 months free access to a service launched by the Manchester and Aberdeen-based human resources firm the Urquhart Partnership.
 
It online HR portal contains hundreds of downloadable and customisable HR documents. MPA members will get 12 months’ free access in which to download and use as many as they like.

Managing director Campbell Urquhart said: “It has hundreds of downloadable template documents that you can customise for your own use such as policies and procedures, standard letter templates and guidance notes. There are also lots of FAQ’s and an online forum to discuss HR related issues.”
