Stephen Chalcraft

Appointments are sponsored by family law firm Hall Brown

Regeneration and property lawyer Stephen Chalcraft has joined law firm Shakespeare Martineau as a partner.

The firm said the appointment would bolster its real estate and projects team across the Midlands and the North West.

Chalcraft previously worked at Slater & Gordon and before that was at Pannone for more than 10 years – first as head of public sector, then head of regeneration and then partner and head of real estate.

Described by Legal 500 as “intellectual and entrepreneurial,” Chalcraft is an honorary member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He is vice president of the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce and chairs both the Chamber’s regeneration and property policy group and its energy group.  He is also chair of the regeneration and property policy group for Pro.Manchester.

Chalcraft will work closely with Shakespeare Martineau’s real estate, energy, infrastructure and planning lawyers, delivering end-to-end major projects across higher education, public and private sectors.

Adrian Bland, head of the firm’s commercial real estate team, said: “Stephen is very well known in the North West and nationally and he has a great deal of specialist regeneration and projects’ expertise, particularly in the public sector. His appointment at Shakespeare Martineau is a seen as a real coup for the firm.”

Andy Raynor, the firm’s chief executive, said: “We have big ambitions nationally and Stephen’s strength and experience in structuring and delivering major projects will be a huge asset.”

Chalcraft said: “Shakespeare Martineau is an innovative and dynamic law firm and is committed to expanding in the North West and the Midlands with a focus on regeneration and complex projects’ work.  With the Northern Powerhouse and the Midlands Engine gaining significant momentum, it’s a great opportunity.”
