Rapid growth for independent broadband and telecoms provider The Fourth Utility has led to its relocation to new offices in Eccles.

The company, which has moved to the recently rebranded City Approach, was founded in 2014 at Orbit Developments’ Deanway Business Park in Wilmslow after identifying businesses across Greater Manchester that were struggling with either high monthly broadband costs or having to work with low upload and download speeds.

Following initial success in Cheshire and South Manchester, the business soon expanded into Salford and Greater Manchester and the team grew to seven staff.

John Critchley, development director of The Fourth Utility, said: “As we’ve expanded the business, we felt a relocation was necessary to continue to provide a high-quality service with a focus on hands on customer service.”

“Basing our office in Eccles enables us to easily access customers via the motorway network and train connections and we were keen to stay with Orbit Developments as we’ve found the offices to be very presentable and affordable with flexible contracts.

“These are all important factors when growing a small business.”

Orbit Developments recently announced the rebranding of its properties Orbit and Emerson House to City Approach.

The properties were the first to be developed by the commercial property landlords over 40 years ago in 1972 by the group’s chairman Peter Emerson Jones.

Leasing director of Orbit Developments, Dean Richards, said: “The unique benefit of being within an Orbit Developments’ property is the opportunity to move around our portfolio as you grow your business. In Salford and Eccles alone we can provide a variety of workspace ranging from one person serviced office suites up to a self-contained building.

“We like to build relationships with our customers and see their business grow and develop so it has been rewarding to see The Fourth Utility grow and move into larger space coinciding with their increased business activity.

“The Fourth Utility have a fantastic business model and we wish the team all the best for the future.”
