Line-up announced for the World Fireworks Championships

Teams from Poland, France and South Africa will go head-to-head in this year’s World Fireworks Championships in Blackpool.

The US team, Rozzi’s Fireworks, put on an incredible display to scoop the prestigious prize last year, seeing off competition from finalists from Australia and Slovakia. This year will see one of Poland’s leading pyrotechnic companies, Super Power, battle it out in a bid to win the title against teams from Brezac Artifices in France and Fireworks for Africa.

The free annual events are among the most popular features in Blackpool’s exciting events calendar, featuring jaw-dropping displays, synched to music, from some of the most talented and technically gifted fireworks engineers in the world.

The event is set to attract tens of thousands of visitors to Blackpool’s famous Promenade for each display. This year’s events take place every Friday from September 8, with Poland kicking things off before the French team take to the stage on September 15, followed by South Africa on September 22.

The winner will be announced during the finale event on September 29, which will feature a display from the UK’s very own Titanium Fireworks.

Cllr Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council, said: “The World Fireworks Championship Blackpool is always a firm favourite for residents and visitors to the resort, with tens of thousands of people gathering on the Promenade.

“We hope that visitors will take the opportunity to come and see these free displays and then stay on for the weekend to enjoy the Illuminations and all that the resort has to offer.

“It’s fantastic to continue to host such a prestigious event and I look forward to seeing the teams in actions this year.”

The winner will be chosen by a panel of local judges including Cllr Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council; Peter Sedgwick, owner of Blackpool’s three piers and Cheryl Tchobanian, proprietor of The Beach House Bar & Bistro, who are sponsoring and hosting the judging area this year.

The fireworks will, as in previous years, be fired from North Pier with build up from 7.30pm and shows starting at 8.30pm.

In addition to the fantastic fireworks competition, anyone attending the event will be invited to stay on and enjoy the Blackpool Illuminations atmosphere at LightPool, where there will be five 3D projection shows displayed on the front of the Blackpool Tower buildings at LightPool Village from September 7 until November 5.
