Northern Monkey Brew Company to craft a new future

Northern Monkey Brew Co. is launching a new brewery and a craft beer hall in Bolton, thanks to a £25k loan from Business Finance Solutions.

Founded by Ryan Bailey and Liam Convey in 2016, the Northern Monkey Brew Co micro brewery currently brews five cask ales which it supplies to over 40 local pubs and bars.

The growing demand for their craft beers has led to the business moving to The Link Project in Bolton town centre where it will be expanding into a purpose built brewery 2.5 times the size of the current operation, alongside their new Bolton Beer Hall micro bar, a bespoke bar and service area selling cask ale, craft ale and a mixture of craft spirits.

The Link Bolton is a new and multifaceted development located close to Bolton town centre, consisting of a commercial and retail element, leisure facilities and hotel.

BFS is the North West’s delivery partner of the government’s national £310m Start Up Loans programme and a lending partner of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

Ryan and Liam will be using the Start Up Loan from BFS to help fund the move to their new premises, launch the Beer Hall and to invest in transport for deliveries, which will enable them to significantly increase sales of cask ale to customers further afield.

Northern Monkey Brew Co. also plans to host different themed beer festivals at the Bolton Beer Hall, to hold exclusive beer launches and develop a series of events in partnership with their neighbouring food and drink businesses in The Link.

Ryan said: “The support and funding from BFS has enabled us to build and expand our business at a critical point in our future and in the evolution of the real ale market, which is driven by consumers looking for quality, authenticity, originality and a premium experience that can’t be replicated at home.

“The Link Project is an ideal new home for us because it allow us to sell our own goods on site whilst maintaining off site sales and also working with other businesses within The Link and across Bolton town centre. We want to grow our business at the heart of our community, contributing significantly to the ongoing redevelopment of Bolton Town centre.”

BFS will see £15 million allocated to new start-ups across the North West over a two year period, creating around 3,000 new businesses and over 5,000 new jobs in the region.

Roger Seddon, head of lending at BFS which is part of the The Growth Company, said: “Having already established a great reputation within Bolton, the Northern Monkey Brew Co were presented with an opportunity to take their growth to the next level and we were able to work quickly with them to arrange the funding they needed to secure significantly larger premises.

“Liam and Ryan are passionate about their craft and have become fantastic ambassadors for the redevelopment and reinvention of Bolton town centre. Their new venue joins a growing number of high quality restaurants and bars that are opening locally and contributing significantly to the growing prosperity of the region.”
