Lake District hotel sold for almost £1.9m

Grasmere Hotel

The Grasmere Hotel in the Lake District has been sold from a guide price of nearly £1.9m.

Special business property adviser Christie & Co completed the sale of the hotel in the picturesque village of Grasmere.

The detached Victorian Country House was sold to a family with considerable experience in the sector looking to relocate to a honey pot location in the heart of the Lake District.

Built in 1871, the hotel offers 11 luxurious en-suite letting bedrooms with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

Decorated with original period features and contemporary furnishings, each bedroom is named after one of the many great writers and poets who have been inspired by the Lake District’s beautiful landscape, most notably, William Wordsworth.

A magnet for literary sightseers, the Grasmere Hotel has welcomed travellers from near and far to the area for a number of years.

The hotel has consistently been featured in the Good Hotel Guides and has achieved numerous Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence awards, having been described as a “haven of peace.”

The property also included a three bedroom owner’s cottage and a gorgeous conservatory restaurant overlooking the garden.

Tom O’Malley, business agent in Christie & Co’s Manchester office who handled the sale said: “The Grasmere Hotel came to the market confidentially and with a strong business in a superb location, it was only a matter of time before a buyer was found and the deal was completed.”
