Law firm launches private equity offering

Manchester law firm Gunercooke has set up a new team to work with private equity firms and their portfolio companies.

Called Operating Partners, it will also work with small and medium sized enterprises to improve their performance, increase their value and help them to scale, workinh alongside both GunnercookeConsulting and the private equity practice in the law firm.

The includes Tom Knight, Veteran retailer and former CEO of JJB Sports; Chris Dee, former CEO of family owned independent supermarket chain Booths and Cy Green, chairman & co-founder of strategic advisory firm Stanford Maritime.

The role of the operating partner in a large business can span the full investment cycle, from due diligence to post transaction integration through to a liquidity event or full exit event. Operating partners are used by investors and boards as a catalyst for change, and may oversee short to medium term as well as long-term operational improvement programmes for a portfolio company.

The new team’s services include: providing private equity firms with expert knowledge to support incumbent management teams; offering advice and aid with investments; working in a trusted capacity to ensure that the businesses they work with improve their performance; and providing investors with the assurance of knowledge, expertise and authority.

Darryl Cooke, co-founder of gunnercooke, said: “Since its inception, gunnercooke has sought to modernise the law industry to keep up with the rapidly changing business environment around us. Through Operating Partners, we are striving to deliver the same advances within private equity that we have achieved across the other sectors in which we specialise.

“Experience is the teacher of all things, and for this reason we have gathered a group of partners with such a depth of knowledge and understanding to create Operating Partners. These partners will successfully work with their clients to improve performance, increase momentum, increase value and ensure success.”

Tom Knight said: “Having been chief executive within some of Britain’s largest listed companies, I’ve learnt invaluable strategic lessons that are of huge benefit to growing businesses. I look forward to partnering with our clients and supporting them to make tough decisions and pragmatic choices about what’s best for their businesses. They can count on a supportive partner who has been there, and understands the stakes of these decisions.”
