Now Bernstein is signed up by Manchester City

Sir Howard Bernstein

Former Manchester City Council chief executive Sir Howard Bernstein has taken up an advisory role at the parent company of Manchester City FC.

He has joined City Football Group as a strategic development adviser with mission to support community, commercial and development initiatives at the Etihad Campus.

He will be part of the board of Eastlands Strategic Development Company, a joint venture between the city council and CFG parent, the Abu Dhabi United Group.

Marty Edelman, City Football Group board member, said: “We are deeply honoured that Sir Howard has accepted this role as we progress ambitious plans to advance the Campus and surrounding areas.

“Sir Howard’s retirement from Manchester City Council earlier this year meant that we could have potentially lost his invaluable two decades of experience in rejuvenating East Manchester.”

In April Bernstein joined Deloitte’s strategic advisory team, specialising in health and social care, government reform and devolution and regeneration.

He is also honorary professor of politics at the University of Manchester.
