Oystons put Blackpool FC up for sale

The Oyston family has put League One football club Blackpool up for sale.

This follows a ruling in the High Court a week ago that Owen Oyston and his son Karl must pay £31m to minority shareholder Valeri Belokon.

Both the football club and Blackpool Football Club Properties Ltd have been put on the market after the presiding judge Justice Marcus Smith ordered the Oystons must pay Belokon for his share after operating an “illegitimate stripping” of the club after it was promoted to the Premier League in 2010.

A statement on the club’s website confirmed the club and its assets were up for sale, but also that the Oyston’s would appeal the ruling.

It said: “Substantial, external, non-football revenue is a major component of the properties business.

“Expressions of interest should be made to an independent nominee, appointed by the football club, who can be contacted via email – independentnominee@blackpoolfc.co.uk.

“Following the recent High Court judgment, legal counsel for the respondents have been instructed to apply for leave to appeal elements of the judgment with immediate effect.

“In the interim period, as throughout the litigation process, the focus of the Football Club’s board remains on supporting the manager and continuing to negate the impact of off-field issues.”
