A Business Masters Award ‘energised our team to keep being creative’, says judge and 2017 winner

Colin Shenton

The chief executive of workspace provider Ziferblat, which won the Innovation category at last year’s Business Masters Awards, said the accolade “energised the team to keep being creative.”

Renowned Manchester property developer and venture capital specialist Colin Shenton is the man behind Ziferblat – the German and Russian word for clock face – which provides pay-per-minute work, meeting, social and event space.

Shenton, who is a member of this year’s Business Masters Awards judging panel, said: “Ziferblat reimagined how shared spaces function and innovates with its unique pay per minute all inclusive pricing and its sociable culture of making friends and enjoying events and meetings: a place where guests can relax and feel at home without worrying about cost or queuing.

“Winning the Business Desk Innovation Award in 2017 was the best possible peer recognition of how Ziferblat thinks differently and it energised our team to keep being creative.”

Ziferblat last year opened its largest branch yet in the Tomorrow building at MediaCityUK.

The sitting room spans the ground and mezzanine floors of Tomorrow, the creative and tech space at the heart of MediaCityUK.

For 8 pence per minute, guests can use the unique co-working space, with unlimited teas, coffees, cakes, biscuits and snacks plus access to Wi-Fi, board games, magazines, and newspapers.

And its clients are not just individual freelancers or start-ups. Regular clients include BBC, University of Manchester, MMU, Co-Operative, and Santander.

Shenton joins a panel of judges for the 2018 Business Masters, which will be held at the Midland Hotel in Manchester on Thursday, April 19, including the editor of TheBusinessDesk.com Alex Turner, managing director of marketing agency MC2 Claire Tennant, Lou Cordwell, the founder and chief executive of digital design studio MagneticNorth, Paul Griffiths, chairman of The Monastery of St Francis & Gorton Trust, which runs The Monastery community facility at Gorton, Manchester, and Neil Worsley managing partner of Convex Capital, our headline sponsor.

Lloyds Bank will also sponsor the International Trade category.

Shenton said: “It’s going to be very exciting to judge this year’s innovators.”
