Marine specialist splashes out £1.5m on company Down Under

Barrow-in-Furness marine services specialist James Fisher & Sons has crossed the globe to make its latest acquisition.

The listed company has bought the entire share capital of Australian firm Cowan Manufacturing PTY for £1.5m.

Cowan, based in New South Wales is recognised worldwide for its leading role in the design, manufacture, installation and in-service support of transportable recompression chamber systems and other life support equipment for the Australian navy and wider international defence market.

Nick Henry, Chief Executive Officer of James Fisher, said: “The acquisition of Cowan broadens the group’s offering to the Australian navy and further enhances our capability within the defence and commercial diving sectors. We are delighted to welcome the Cowan team to the Group.”

EC Hambro Rabben & Partners has acted as corporate adviser to James Fisher.

In December Fisher bought Lancashire-based high voltage engineering company EDS in deal worth £14.6m.
