Barrow-in-Furness-based marine service specialist James Fisher and Sons has enjoyed a major uplift in pre-tax profits and revenue, thanks largely to its marine support division.

Pre-tax profit grew 10% to £50.3m in the year to December 31, while turnover increased 9% to £505.4m.

Profits from its marine support offering, however, climbed 17%, the listed company said.

Chief executive Nick Henry, said: “Three of our four divisions improved their results with marine support leading the way.

“The strength of the group’s business model with its broad spread of activities across the marine sector; its strong international presence and its ability to innovate and grow new businesses gives the board a positive view of the year ahead and confidence of the group’s potential to provide further growth and value for our shareholders in the future.”
