£60m will fund building of 1,000 homes

A Cheshire housing association is set to build 1,000 new homes after securing a £60m tailored funding package from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

Halton Housing will build a range of houses, apartments and bungalows over the next five years, which will be available to buy and rent.

Founded in 2005, Halton Housing provides more than 7,000 high-quality housing to more than 20,000 individuals. Over the past six years the company has accelerated its development programme, building more than 1,000 new homes across Halton, Widnes and Runcorn.

Neil McGrath, executive director of business services at Halton Housing, said: “Housing is in demand across the area and we want to ensure that people have access to high-quality homes that are affordable”.

“We’ve worked with Lloyds Bank for more than 12 years and the tailored support that its social housing team has provided has been a key part of our growth.

“Not only did they arrange funding that’s exactly suited to our needs, but the team’s in-depth knowledge of the sector meant they were always on hand to act as a sounding board for new ideas.”

Mike Stevenson, social housing relationship director at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “Organisations like Halton Housing are doing fantastic work in local communities, and are helping more people across the area to take their first steps on the property ladder.

“It’s therefore vital that the social housing industry has the specialist funding it needs to thrive, and in 2017 we provided £2bn of new funding to helping companies across the sector to prosper.”
