Sale-based integrated communications agency, One, has added two heads of department to its six-strong board.

Alex Hamilton and Adam Friday, respective heads of One’s PR & social and digital departments, were inducted as part of a succession planning process to futureproof the business.

With roots dating back to 1975, One’s board includes the company founder’s son, Graeme Wood, as well as the chairman, MD, FD and company secretary.

Hamilton and Friday’s board appointments follow that of client services director, Will English, who was inducted in October 2017.

Chief executive Graeme Wood said: “The business has evolved a lot over the years in order to both meet and respond to customer demands, so it’s important for us to have representation at the board that reflects the scale and scope of our offering.

“Alex and Adam are both spirited individuals and their input to the business, most particularly during the past 12 months, has been invaluable, so we wanted to recognise and reward their enthusiasm and contribution.”

Offering digital, PR, social media, advertising and design services to a range of B2B and B2C clients, the agency’s client roster includes Hoover, Taylor Wimpey, United Utilities and Bupa.

Wirral Chamber of Commerce has appointed Heather Heaton as its new head of communications.

Heather, 38, will lead a borough-wide strategy to support the development and growth of a variety of members through business support, networking and advice.

She has previously held roles including public affairs manager at Wirral Borough Council as well as running her own business, Today Starts Now, which focused on enterprise projects, careers education and engagement within the sector.

Heather said: “I am delighted to join the Wirral Chamber of Commerce, working alongside a dedicated and knowledgeable team who strive to help our business members reach their full potential.

“Wirral itself is an enterprise hub within the North West, boasting a plethora of ground-breaking start-ups and well-established businesses alike.

“As part of my role, I will be focusing on profiling these companies as well as showcasing the fantastic work done by Wirral Chamber of Commerce.”

Crewe-based recruitment agency Premier Placement Services continues to grow with the appointment of a new business development manager.

Simon Hawes joins the 11-strong team, which has offices in Crewe and Newcastle-under-Lyme, as their business development manager.

The recruitment agency serves employers and jobseekers within the driving, office, technical, industrial and skilled sectors.

Mr Hawes is a former manager who has worked in sales and business management for 12 years for some of the largest national recruitment companies, including Interaction Recruitment, Randstad UK, Commodity Appointments Ltd and at business advisers BDO UK LLP.

He said: “I was attracted to the role of business development manager here at Premier Placement Services as I like the company, the spectrum of clients and sectors, the increasing job opportunities and I really like this area to live in as well.”

Concept Life Sciences, the integrated drug discovery, development and analytical services company, has appointed Matilda Bingham as site director of its Alderley Park site in Cheshire, and David Higton as principal scientist (biotransformation and metabolite identification), also based at the Alderley Park site.

Ms Bingam has more than 15 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry, in both biotech and pharma environments.

She joins Concept from Redx Pharma, where she held positions as head of research and operations, and executive director of oncology and immunology.

Mr Higton is a highly experienced scientist with a proven track record of delivering innovative, effective solutions.

He has more than 34 years of expertise in bioanalytical and biotransformation studies, including 23 years at Glaxo Group Research, now GlaxoSmithKline, where he supported pre-clinical, clinical, and discovery investigations, for both non-GLP and GLP studies. He joins from Cyprotex, where he was most recently head of analytical sciences.

Philip Payne, chief operating officer, said: “With several years’ experience of managing multidisciplinary research projects in a pharmaceutical company environment, we are delighted to have appointed Matilda to head up our new Alderley Park site, which was established in September 2017. Addleshaw Goddard has promoted three lawyers to partner in its Manchester office, as part of its 2018 promotions.

The international business law firm has promoted Tim Taylor in its business support and restructuring team, Erin Shoesmith in its health and safety team and Michelle Headrige from its environment team.

These promotions follow the lateral hires of eight partners in the firm’s Manchester real estate and construction teams, an investment which not only underpins the firm’s commitment to both the real estate and local markets, but creates the largest real estate specialist team in the region.

BECG, the specialist communications agency for the built environment, has expanded its Manchester-based north region team with the appointment of Tom Morrison as associate sirector.

Former Liverpool City Councillor Tom has left his previous role with United Utilities to take-up the position. He is working with north region director Kevin Whitmore to provide communications and public affairs counsel for clients across the North of England.

Mr Morrison said: “The agency has a fantastic team of consultants offering the best and most innovative communications strategies to clients across the built environment sectors and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”
