US group swoops for Blackburn technology firm in £1.3m deal

Cohuba, a provider of interactive technology for the global education market, has been snapped up by US-based Boxlight Corporation, of Georgia.

Boxlight completed the acquisition of the Blackburn-based business from a family trust of Tony Cann, founder of Blackburn-based educational technologies company Promethean, through a stock deal.

Cohuba is a developer of interactive touch display technology for the education, business and government sectors.

Founded in 2016 by veterans of the interactive display market, Cohuba was built to challenge the status quo and better serve the needs of customers through the development of fantastic products at reasonable and fair price-points.

Having disrupted the market in the United Kingdom, Cohuba caught the eye of Boxlight, which said it shares its commitment for innovation and fantastic customer experiences.

Effective immediately, Cohuba customers will benefit from a range of full-class, collaborative learning, assessment and STEM applications provided by Boxlight, including the award-winning MimioStudioTM software, powering a technologically immersive classroom experience.

Further plans to bolster the offering to business and government users with tailored hardware and software solutions will also be announced later in the year.

“Overnight our education solution is now a 360° platform incorporating phenomenal software and high-spec hardware” said Andy Pennington, chief executive of Cohuba.

“We are thrilled to join Boxlight and will benefit from the immense resources they provide, including their seasoned management team and comprehensive product suite.”

As part of the deal, Boxlight benefits from the acquisition of significant management talent by adding Paul Pickup, former chief operating officer of Promethean, and Andy Pennington, founder and chief executive of Cohuba, previously head of product at Promethean responsible for interactive panels and software.

“The transaction is part of our continued effort to supplement our organic sales growth with strategic acquisitions that accelerate our ability to distribute our solutions globally,” said Michael Pope, president of Boxlight.

“Cohuba brings a seasoned sales and operational team and a strong network of reseller partners with decades of experience selling technology solutions into the United Kingdom.”

Mark Elliott, Boxlight chief executive, added: “I am eager to welcome Paul, Andy and the UK team to Boxlight.

“I have a trusted relationship with Paul and Andy from my time at Promethean, and I look forward to leveraging their knowledge and relationships.”
