£1m Liverpool Gin Distillery will open on Castle Street this year

The Castle Street premises

Liverpool Gin is to open a new distillery, complete with two bars, a Gin Lab and a Bartender School, on Castle Street in the heart of the city towards the end of 2018.

The £1m development, owned by Halewood Wines & Spirits, will enable gin fans to learn how to make the spirit themselves in a specially designed Gin Lab.

Visitors will be able to choose their own botanicals and distil their own bespoke gin to take home.

Guests will also be able to see Liverpool Gin being made first-hand, in a 600-litre working copper still which will be on display on the ground floor.

A premium gin and spirits bar will also be on the ground floor, with a further premium dark spirits bar at basement level. Both bars will serve food, including small tapas-style dishes and pizza.

Liverpool is home to some of the country’s best mixologists and now they’ll have their own training school, with the Liverpool Gin Bartender School, which will be housed on the second floor of the distillery building.

Budding bartenders will learn a multitude of bartender aspects, such as how to make the perfect G&T, flavour pairings and correct pour temperatures.

All graduating bartenders will be awarded a certificate.

Lee Tayburn, operations director, Halewood Wines & Spirits, said: “Liverpool Gin is one the city’s most well-loved premium brands and the new distillery, right in the heart of Liverpool’s bustling food and drink hub, will provide an accessible interactive experience which will appeal to both locals and visitors alike.”
