International legal giant lands in Liverpool

International law firm Taylor Wessing has announced plans to open a new office in Liverpool in the autumn as a focal point for innovation and client service.
The new office will deliver legal and business services with a focus on reshaping service delivery to adapt to changing client needs.
This complements the firm’s long-running initiatives that maximise use of technology for client collaboration and efficiency.
The office will launch in September, initially with a small number of new legal service roles as well as local operational support.
The firm is also proposing to move its business acceptance team, a key function that the firm will be investing in to meet the increasing demands of the business and regulatory environment.
Taylor Wessing operates 32 offices internationally. It has around 400 partners and 1,000 lawyers worldwide.
The company was formed in 2002 as a result of a merger of the British law firm Taylor Joynson Garrett and the German law firm Wessing & Berenberg-Gossler, retaining the first name of each.
Initially the new Liverpool office will open in flexible premises while the team and new working practices are embedded and appropriate long-term office space is secured.
The office will be led by a partner of the firm. The initial ambition is to grow to 25 legal and business services professionals within its first quarter of operation.
The firm says it intends that there will be 12 roles based in Liverpool, with potential to grow further.
Over the autumn the firm will continue reviewing its operations to assess how the office should grow to support its ambition to be a world-class global law firm.
The firm believes Liverpool is an ideal location for attracting talent and supporting long-term career development.
The city and surrounding region has a high volume of experienced people and excellent universities.
Managing partner Tim Eyles said: “We work with our clients in dynamic, expanding markets and our service delivery must evolve to reflect that.
“Having enjoyed a period of strong growth, I’m pleased that we can continue our upward curve of investment in future operations.
“This is about providing a catalyst for long-term reinvention to continue to deliver a better service, being smart with our resources and continuing to invest in more people – we will need them.
“Liverpool is a vibrant city that, like Taylor Wessing, provides an environment which enables creativity to thrive.”
Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson said: “It is fantastic to welcome Taylor Wessing, a successful and expanding international firm to Liverpool.
“The firm’s decision to locate here, like the Royal College of Physicians and many other prestigious organisations, further underlines the private sector’s growing confidence to invest in our city.
“Taylor Wessing engaged warmly with us during the process of choosing their new operation location, so we have got to know them well and we are looking forward to this union going from strength to strength.
“The recent International Business Festival demonstrated Liverpool’s energy as an attractive and progressive city and I’m sure Taylor Wessing’s creative reputation will make for an excellent addition to our business community.”
Taylor Eessing recently released 2017/18 results which showed its best performance to date, with UK and international income up 12% to £144.6m and £301.5m, respectively.
