Typhoo extends Wirral site

TYPHOO Tea has opened a new packing facility at its site on the Wirral.

The firm said the new room will handle speciality teas and pack them into metal caddies, cartons and specially designed gift packs.

Much of its output will go to Harrods under the store’s own brand.

Chief Executive, Keith Packer, said: “We are pleased to incorporate a speciality tea packing area onto our Moreton site. It offers our customers yet another alternative on existing or new products and highlights our diverse production capabilities.”

Moreton-based Typhoo is currently looking at cutting 69 of its 320-strong workforce to keep the site viable. In December it said it was committed to keeping its head office and factory at the site but needed to cut costs.

Typhoo was bought by India’s Apeejay Surrendra Group in 2005 and imports tea from all over the world to be processed and packed at the site.
