Zlatan’s clothing line is closed down with losses of £18m

Former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s venture into the clothing industry appears to over.

The footballer, who now plays in America, launched his own clothing brand two years ago.

But the A-Z clothing line is now closing down following reported losses of £18m.

According to reports in Sweden the LA Galaxy player’s company has now been shut down.

The 36-year-old, who is back on the pitch after recovering from a major injury, launched his brand with the backing of the Norwegian fashion group Varner.

He set up the business while he was still on the books at Manchester United.
Varner Group has issued a statement.

It said: “Despite solid growth in 2017 the European sportswear effort has proved too expensive.

“Petter Varner and Zlatan Ibrahimovic agree to end their co-operation in A-Z.”

The firm was selling boxer shorts for £17.99 each or three for £39.99.

Last year Varner reveald it had made “higher than expected” losses due to marketing costs.

It said at the time: “2016 was the first year of the company and we had high commercialisation costs, but of course we expect improved sales and improved results.

“We knew we would not make money in the first year but the losses were higher than expected.”
