Manchester printer that supplied City & United goes into administration

A Trafford Park printer that supplied both Manchester City and Manchester United has gone into administration.

G&H Sheet Fed had employed 80 staff and had already made 56 redundancies. Most of the remainder are expected to lose their jobs as a result of the administration.

Chris Ratten and Lindsey Cooper of RSM were appointed as joint administrators yesterday.

Earlier this month the firm had attempted to seek protection from creditors after it suffered a six-figure bad debt.

RSM said in a statement: “The decision to appoint administrators was made by the directors of G&H after suffering a bad debt, combined with difficult trading conditions within the printing sector.”

G&H was founded in 1969 and traded from three sites in Trafford Park.

Its client list included the two Manchester football clubs, as well as retailers Lakeland, Nisa and Regatta.

Mr Ratten said: “The tough trading environment for the print industry continues and unfortunately a sizeable bad debt and squeeze on credit limits has led to another blow for the sector.”

In the year to June 30, 2017, G&H reported turnover of £11.9m, and an operating profit of £1.5m. However, it filed an operating loss of £1.28m on discontinued operations.

It is understood that there is interest in the company’s assets, particularly a four-year-old web press.

The administrators said they are speaking to several interested parties.
