A private label bakery is creating 200 jobs at two Cheshire sites.

Bakkavor Bread is recruiting for jobs at its plants in Crewe and Nantwich, duw to increasing consumer demand.

The Wiltshire-based Bakkavor Group acquired the Haydens Bakery arm of Liverpool’s Real Good Food Group in a £12m deal last week.

Bakkavor’s two Cheshire sites already employ more than 670 people.

They produce more than 11m bread items each week, with an average of 50 different types of product being run at any one time.

Paul Peachey, the business director for Bakkavor Bread and Pizza, said: “Bakkavor Bread continues to expand and the recruitment drive announced today shows that demand for our delicious chilled breads continues to grow.”

Announcing the Haydens deal last week, Agust Gudmundsson, chief executive officer of Bakkavor, said: “We are pleased to welcome Haydens to the Bakkavor Group.

“It is a business which shares Bakkavor’s passion for providing outstanding service, quality and value to its customers and has a reputation for supplying some of the best tasting sweet treats to the UK’s leading retailers.

“This acquisition will grow both our capacity and product offering in the desserts category, and we are delighted to be welcoming Haydens’ management and the wider team to our business.”

Haydens produces baked tarts, pies and crumbles, Danish pastries, sweet buns and doughnuts.
