Spire Healthcare’s Histology Centre has moved its specialist pathology team into Orbit Developments’ business park, Parkway, as part of a plan to meet ambitious growth targets in the next few years.

The relocation from its previous home in Whalley Range into the new 6,135 sq ft facility at Parkway will, in time, allow the centre to take on more staff and almost quadruple the annual case load from 23,000 to 80,000 – a scale of operation rarely seen in the private sector.

The team has reacted positively to the bright and modern environment at Parkway, access to a larger workspace, increased laboratory facilities and the professional, gated business community.

Its on-site café, Pilates classes and monthly food truck events have all proven especially popular.

Claire Grinnell, national operations manager for pathology at Spire Healthcare, explained: “We have spent the past 38 years at the previous Spire Centre in Whalley Range, but our technicians were struggling to find space in the lab to work efficiently, which restricted our annual case load.

“When the rest of the centre made the decision to relocate to Didsbury, we took the opportunity to set up our own stand-alone facility at Parkway with better quality work space and increased benches in the laboratory. We are now properly geared for growth.”

She added: “The move has been welcomed by the staff and there is a real sense of pride in the place.”

Rhys Owen, leasing director for Orbit Developments, said: “Princess Parkway has established itself as a tech/medical corridor attracting highly skilled, niche businesses.

“The workspace at Parkway Business Centre is supporting this trend and bringing in a growing number of these type of companies, mainly thanks to the on-site amenities and parking for employees set within secure, landscaped grounds.

“We’re pleased to be able to welcome Spire and wish the team all the best with their future growth plans. We look forward to hearing more about the great work they do.”
