Safety specialist Project Four wins Liverpool Cruise Terminal hotel contract
Construction safety specialist firm Project Four will play a major role in the construction of a £30m 200-bed hotel next to Liverpool’s new cruise terminal after securing the latest in a string of contract wins.
Main contractor, Wates Construction, has appointed Liverpool-based Project Four to ensure the project is compliant with strict construction, design and management (CDM) regulations.
Current CDM regulations were introduced in 2015 and created the role of ‘principal designer’ – usually the developer or main contractor – who is ultimately responsible for CDM compliance.
Project Four will be the ‘advisor to the principal designer’.
Run by directors Alan Robson and Max Meadows and based at Avenue HQ at Mann Island, Project Four has established itself as the ‘go-to’ CDM experts on projects worth hundreds of millions of pounds across the North West and in other parts of the UK.
On the hotel scheme, Project Four will coordinate the design team and key project stakeholders, and ensure a “proactive and effective” design risk management strategy is applied.
Subject to planning approval, work on the waterfront hotel in Princes Dock, within the £5bn Liverpool Waters scheme, is scheduled to start in 2019, with completion expected the following year.
Alan said: “The return of big cruise ships to the Mersey has been one of the most visual representations of Liverpool City Region’s economic renaissance over the past decade and it is fantastic that Liverpool now needs a new cruise facility to cope with rising demand.
“The hotel will be an integral part of the new facility and I know both ourselves and Wates are totally committed to making sure this project is delivered on time and to specification.”
He added: “Project Four has only been in existence for two years, but already we have established brilliant relationships with developers and construction specialists across the North West and beyond.”
Wates will build the terminal on behalf of Liverpool City Council and says Project Four’s expertise and experience will be key to the success of the project.
