Michelle Garlick

Weightman’s partner Michelle Garlick has been chosen as next year’s Manchester Law Society president.

The head of compliance at Weightmans specialises in advising and representing the law firms on risk management and regulatory compliance.

The solicitor is considered an industry leading authority on regulatory and compliance issues and is a well-known speaker on the legal circuit.

The new president has been involved with the Manchester Law Society for a number of years and has been a council member for the last six.

She  said: “I am delighted to become President of Manchester Law Society especially in the centenary year since women were first able to practise as lawyers.

“2019 will bring with it some very important changes to the legal industry, particularly for solicitors, with a new code of conduct and the introduction of regulations which will change the way legal services can be delivered.

“I am looking forward to working with members to ensure we are in the best possible position to embrace these changes and the opportunities and challenges they may bring.”

She added: “As a Mancunian, I am a passionate advocate for the Manchester legal industry and I I’m honoured to have been chosen to represent and support my peers and colleagues across the region.”

Fran Eccles-Bech, chief executive at Manchester Law Society, said: “Michelle is an exceptional legal mind who has worked tirelessly in her support of the Manchester Law Society over the years and we are delighted to recognise her continued commitment to the industry with her election to President.”
