Plans to bring new housing to Gorton have taken a major step forward with the submission of a joint planning application by housebuilder Countryside and asset manager SCP Investments to build 247 homes on the site of the Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium at Kirkmanshulme Lane.

The planning application, submitted to Manchester City Council yesterday, (December 17) outlines proposals to create an attractive new mixed-tenure development of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom properties available for private rent, shared ownership and open market sale.

The application has been prepared following pre-application consultation with the local planning authority and other key stakeholders.

Plans for the new development incorporate high quality landscaping, including extensive new tree planting across the 11.9 acre site.

Subject to planning, development of the site will include the demolition of existing buildings to make way for 167 two-storey houses and a range of 80 apartments across three- and four-storey buildings.

Designs for the new development have been created in accordance with the National Described Space Standards with all new homes designed to maximise natural light to enhance health and wellbeing.

John Grealis, regional operations director, Countryside, said: “Submission for planning for the new development at Kirkmanshulme Lane is a key milestone in Countryside and Sigma’s shared vision to create a brand new community in Gorton.

“Our ambition for the development of the Belle Vue site is to meet the local need for housing, doing so by creating high quality homes into which local families can grow and thrive with access to green space and a range of local amenities.

“Subject to planning, our new development in Gorton will see the exclusive launch of eight brand new house types, designed specifically in accordance with the National Described Space Standards to create homes that are light and spacious, enhancing the high level of quality that is synonymous with Countryside’s homes.”

Graeme Hogg, chief operating officer at Sigma, provider of private rented sector housing, added: “We are delighted to see this application being submitted after a positive and collaborative pre-application process.

“The mix of house types and tenures will provide customers with a choice not currently available in Gorton and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to investment in private rented homes in Manchester.”
