Chester-based firm, Exchequer Accountancy, which specialises in accountancy for freelancers and sole traders, has expanded with a dedicated division for UK-based SMEs.

The small business unit was created following an increase in demand for proactive, up-to-date and digital SME accounting services and advice.

The aim is to provide an innovative and cost-effective service to ambitious small businesses.

To help the expansion, Exchequer Accountancy acquired Cheshire-based independent accountancy firm Delafaille and Co in August. The firm’s previous owner, Victoria Delafaille, is now a director at Exchequer Accountancy.

Victoria said: “The number of entrepreneurs, sole traders and SMEs in Britain continues to rise.

“By combining experience and launching a specialist division, Exchequer Accountancy is able to help more businesses as demand grows.”

The new division will be headed by accountant Jessica Holmes and business development manager Emily Lightfoot.

Each SME client receives advice that is tailored to the specific stage in its business lifecycle.

Smart management information and kpi’s, cashflow projections and job costings form part of the service.

Customers are given access to cloud software, enabling them to easily manage accounts on the go.

“For many small businesses, too much precious time is taken up by financial admin. We understand that the more hours small business owners invest in growing their companies, the better their chances are of success,” said Victoria.

“Traditional high street accountants are not able to offer these fast-growing businesses the proactive and real-time advice that is needed in the modern digital age.

“We wanted to provide a custom-made accountancy package to support SMEs and maximise clients’ returns,” she added.
