Retailer signs deal to move into former Toys R Us store

The Range

Retail group The Range has agreed a deal with the landlords of Stockport Retail to move into the former Toys R Us unit.

Park, Peel Land and Property has signed a deal which will see The Range open a new store in 2019 in the former Toys R Us unit.

The Range will take occupancy of the 44,000 sq ft unit and has announced plans to extend into a further 10,000 sq ft of additional space to the rear of the building, to provide a larger format store alongside a garden centre.

This exciting addition to the park, with an extensive offer of home, leisure and garden products complements the existing tenant line up at the popular Stockport Retail Park, which includes Dunelm Mill, TK Maxx, Wilkos and Matalan.

Roger Wheeldon, development manager at Peel L&P, which owns and manages Stockport Retail Park, said: “The Range superstore coming to Stockport Retail Park is testament to the Peel Retail Parks philosophy, to continuously improve the offer for our customers with a diverse line up of retailers through re-investment into our retail parks portfolio.

“This new deal with The Range takes the park back up to full occupancy. We’re very much looking forward to their arrival.’’

Owner and founder of The Range, Chris Dawson, commented on the new store: “Stockport Retail Park provides an ideal location for a new branch of The Range, with strong footfall and a varied retailer line up.

“We’re confident the new store will be hugely popular and we’re looking forward to unveiling our fantastic selection of products to shoppers. The new store will create 80 new jobs for the local area.”

In addition, Peel L&P has announced further investment at the park, to include new illuminated tenant signage, plus a full review of the pay and display car park systems to improve usability for customers.

The improvement follows the investment in new LED lighting and CCTV systems which were installed during 2017 and 2018.
