Latest self-storage scheme to benefit Bury economy
Two North West independent self-storage entrepreneurs are preparing to open their latest multimillion-pound flagship store in Bury.
Mike Wilson (44) and Andy Wood (43) say their 42,000 sq ft new-build facility in Park 66, Pilsworth Road, off junction 3 of the M66, is due to open its doors in April and will be fully operational by the start of the Summer.
It will offer a selection of managed storage opportunities for domestic and business customers, including external drive-up units, trade counters and a single large commercial space.
Although initially only a handful of full-time jobs will be created by the move, scores more are expected to follow when local organisations move into the facility.
In addition to the storage and business space on offer, approximately 9,000 sq ft of the building is to be rented to a local business as a stand-alone commercial space. This is expected to attract considerable additional investment into the area.
This facility is the fourth of 10 Generation4 self-storage operations promised for the North West and Midlands over the next 12 months, adding to the group’s existing portfolio in Northwich, Bolton and Cannock.
Andy Wood said: “SureStore in Bury represents a landmark for us as we approach the half-way stage of our development aspirations.
“Increasingly, customers are seeking accessible, secure, technologically-advanced solutions to their varied storage needs.
“Local people will not only benefit through having a state-of-the art facility on their doorstep, but in the job creation and business expansion opportunities that will follow.
“Our investment represents a massive vote of confidence in the town and will encourage others to support Bury’s continuing regeneration.”
Mike Wilson added: “As entrepreneurs ourselves, we understand all too well how challenging starting and managing a new business can be.
“To help Bury’s entrepreneurs and their fledgling enterprises flourish we have created a managed self-storage offering which is both flexible and affordable. We are really looking forward to becoming an active supporter of the local community and the burgeoning businesses within it when we open later this year.”
Part of Sladen Estates’ redevelopment of an area covering 12 acres in total, the Midlands-based development company will be driving the build schedule.
SureStore has appointed a number of organisations from in and around the region to complete the internal build and fit out including EMS (Wolverhampton), Disc Electrical (Crewe), C4 Consulting (Lymm), ARC Elevators (Colne), Janus International (Durham), Airclad (Stoke), PTI Security Systems (London), Copeland Group Services (Liverpool) and Medhurst (Frodsham).
Nigel Jones, director of Sladen Estates, said: “We are really pleased with the development which will be delivered on time and within budget.
“Our decision to build these units speculatively has been justified, with only one of the industrial units still available to purchase.
“SureStore is at the heart of this scheme which will undoubtedly be a catalyst for further regeneration in and around the town.”
