Green light for residential scheme on former hotel site

Cheshire-based developer Hall & Co Property has been given the green light for a new residential scheme on the site of the former County Hotel in Alderley Edge.

The scheme, which will be known as ‘The Residence’, comprises 22 luxury apartments and four town houses, complete with winter gardens, outdoor terraces, communal gardens and underground parking.

The existing hotel building, which closed its doors almost 10 years ago, will be demolished after lying in a state of disrepair, often the subject of vandalism and anti-social behavior.

The Residence has been designed by architectural practice, Ollier Smurthwaite, incorporating stylistic cues from existing properties surrounding the new development.

The proposals pay homage to the grand villas erected by the wealthy merchants and industrialists in the 19th century.

Managing director of Ollier Smurthwaite, Matt Ollier, said: “The site offered a unique opportunity to create a landmark scheme, one-of-a-kind Victorian elegance re-imagined with generous room proportions, tall ceilings, and bespoke, beautifully crafted interiors, using the finest materials and all sitting in immaculately manicured landscaped gardens.”

He added: “We’ve created a fantastic scheme that provides high quality, beautifully designed housing of a standard long associated with Alderley Edge.”

Roy Hall, chairman of Hall & Co Property, said: “After extensive negotiations and enormous effort from our architects and planning team, we’re pleased to have received full planning permission to bring the site back to life – for far too many years, it has been an eyesore and, indeed, an embarrassment to the Village and we’re proud to be able to breathe life into what is an important gateway site.”

The Residence is scheduled for completion in Spring 2021.
